Our God is Mighty to Save

In Genesis 20, Abraham introduced Sarah, his wife of many years as his sister.  He had moved to the land of the Negev and the people were not God fearing.  Instead of Abraham asking God to protect him and his wife, he took matters into his own hands and decided to pretend that he and Sarah were not married.  This led to Abimelech, the king of Gerar taking Srah as his wife.  Sarah was very beautiful.

Sarah, the woman whom God had chosen to be the mother of the promised child, Isaac,  was now in a position to be harmed and her destiny in jeopardy.  Sarah seemed to be in a helpless situation.  However, God intervened and saved Sarah.  God warned King Abimelech in a dream not to touch her because she was Abraham's wife.  Genesis 20:1-7.  Our God is mighty to save. 

Mighty means possessing great and impressive, power and strength.  Salvation can be defined as preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin or loss.  Salvation also means the deliverance from sin and its consequences.

God sent His Son, Jesus to save us from our sins.  Jesus died on the cross for us and salvation is now available to anyone who calls upon the name of Jesus.  John 3:16-17, Romans 10:13.  However, God's salvation goes beyond just the forgiveness of sins.  God desires to make us whole.  God desires to not only heal us spiritually, emotionally and physically, but also to provide for us and rescue and preserve us from any dangerous situation that threatens to harm us in anyway.  Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief only comes to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full."

In 2 Chronicles 20, a vast army came against Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah.  It was a confederacy of the Moabites, Ammonites and some of the Meunites.  Alarmed Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.  God answered their cry and the Spirit of the LORD came on Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah.  Jahaziel prophesied that God was going to defeat their enemies.  God kept His Word and He confused the confederacy and had them fight against and destroy each other.  God saved His people from harm and destruction.  Our God is mighty to save.

No matter the vast army that comes against us, whether it be sickness and disease, financial hardships, relationship difficulties, emotional trauma or work-related challenges, our God is mighty to save and able to deliver us from all trouble.  Luke 4:18, Matthew 4:23-24, Acts 10:38, Psalm 34:17. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and He promises to never leave nor forsake us. 

1 John 5:14-15 says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him."  God's will for us is to prosper and be in good health just as our soul prospers.  Our God is mighty to preserve us from all harm, evil and destruction.  Our God is mighty to save.
